How to change Shopify themes?

You can change Shopify themes in 3 ways. Each of the three ways has some steps to follow to help you upgrade your online store and change the current theme set.

Using the Shopify Admin Panel for theme upgrade

The first way in which you can change the Shopify themes on your store without disturbing its content is by using the Shopify Admin Panel to do the task. This is a quick way to upgrade the themes and the total time taken is about 15-20 minutes. Here’s how you do it:-

  1. The menu on the admin page is on the left side. Go to the menu and tap on the “Online Store” button. The first section when you select the mentioned option is Themes. You are automatically directed to the page.
  2. Next, you need to scroll down the main page. The bottom of the page has the Shopify Theme Store. You get free as well as paid themes in it. For a more professional and formal display, go for paid themes.
  3. After that you need to tap on the Explore Free Shopify Themes tab. You can get themes like Boundless, Supply, Simple, Narrative and more.
  4. You can simply click on the theme you like to know more about its features and the styles that it has to offer.
  5. You can then add the selected theme to the Theme Library by adding it to the library button that is displayed on the main bar.
  6. You need to then install the theme. Once it is installed, go to the “Guide to Theme Customization” option to learn how to customize and apply the selected theme to your store.

Use Third-Party themes to change your current Shopify themes

Although Shopify allows you to do several things while creating and updating your online store, there are some things that Shopify can’t do. To resolve these issues, many Shopify merchants take help from outside and use third-party themes that are not available in the Shopify Theme Store. This is the second way to change your Shopify themes.

Now you may wonder - why would you use a third-party theme when Shopify already offers you a variety of it?

Some traditional themes offered by Shopify do not have very powerful features such as conversion, customization, optimization, and more. Some of the themes even lack additional options to increase your sales which are usually in-built in third party themes, etc. One such amazing theme is the EcomSolid Shopify Theme.

If you decide to use third party themes, you need to integrate them with your online store settings on Shopify. Here are some simple steps you need to follow:-

  1. You first need to access the website or the app of the selected third-party.
  2. You need to locate the button to get started on their platform.
  3. Once the process is initiated, you need to enter the name of your Shopify domain. This will direct you to the dashboard of the themes section.
  4. You can then access it and integrate the selected theme with Shopify’s backend.
  5. You can also go to the Apps section on your Shopify dashboard. It will give you a list of themes available on different apps. Click on your desired theme and get started.

Use your unique Shopify theme

The third way is you create your own theme or take help from a builder to create a theme unique to your preferences and needs. This can be done by using CSS, Liquid, and HTML. Once you are ready with your own theme, you can use it to replace the one on your online store. Follow these simple steps:-

  1. Go to the Themes section in Shopify and access the “Upload theme” tab.
  2. You will then see the “Add file” button. Click on it and upload your theme.
  3. After the upload is complete, you can access it from your Theme Library.
  4. You can then select it for your store and continue with the customization as per your needs.
